Faculty
Every faculty member is a practicing artist. Each has a lifetime of practical experience to share with you. All have displayed their work in noteworthy exhibitions, and all attend professional conferences and workshops to keep up with new research and technology. The faculty consists of fourteen full-time and part-time members, all of whom have expertise in either visual communications or at least one studio area.

Dee Schaad, M.F.A.
|
Dee Schaad is Professor of Art and Chair of the Department of Art and Design. He has a Master of Fine Arts degree with a major in ceramics from the University of Nebraska, College of Fine Arts. Professor Schaad has been on the faculty of the University of Indianapolis for nearly 30 years. His prize-winning work can be found in both public and private collections. He has shown extensively in both regional and national exhibitions.

Donna Adams, M.F.A.
|
Donna Adams received her Master of Fine Arts Degree from University of Missouri – Columbia. She recently received the Graduate Certificate in Non-Toxic Intaglio Printmaking from Rochester Institute of Technology. Ms. Adams has worked in a variety of mediums, but her current work is digital photography and printmaking. She has taught workshops around the U.S. and Canada and received regional and national awards. She currently teaches photography and printmaking at University of Indianapolis.

Julia Taugner, M.F.A.
|
Julia Taugner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Indianapolis. She has a B.F.A. in Painting from Auburn University in Alabama, and an M.F.A. in Graphic Design from Indiana University in Bloomington. Before teaching, Julia worked for thirteen years as a Graphic Designer and Art Director for design studios and publishers in St. Louis and Indianapolis. Julia Taugner’s area of specialization is Publication Design, both for books and magazines. In addition to her work in Visual Communication Design, Julia works with collage and photomontage on subjects of personal interest.

Christine Bentley, M.A.  |
Christine Bentley has a Master of Arts degree in Art History from the University of Notre Dame and is currently working toward her Ph.D. in Art History at Indiana University-Bloomington. Her primary area of specialization is nineteenth & twentieth century European art, focusing on German & Austrian women artists of the early twentieth century. She has been awarded numerous grants to conduct research abroad and has presented papers at a number of regional and national conferences. She recently participated in an NEH funded summer institute at the University of Chicago titled, "Culture and Communication in the Pre-Modern Islamic World." Her approach to teaching art history is based on her belief that art exists as part of a larger cultural, social and political environment which often shapes the responses that people have to artwork and its use within these environments. |

James Viewegh, M.F.A.
|
James Viewegh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design. He teaches all levels of Drawing and Painting. Mr. Viewegh has his Master of Arts in Drawing from Ball State University and his Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Indiana State University. His figurative drawings and paintings are shown regionally and nationally.
