Expanding your horizons
For times when you're more interested in viewing than creating art, you'll
find a wealth of resources. The Indianapolis Museum of Art provides a
comprehensive collection of masterworks from around the world. The Eiteljorg
Museum of Western and American Indian Art, located downtown, is a leader
in its field. Indianapolis also has several contemporary art sales galleries.
Additionally, Indianapolis is within driving distance of some of the
nation's finest art galleries, such as those in St. Louis, Cincinnati,
and Chicago. You can go on your own or wait for the Art and Design Department's
annual trip to Chicago. We also lead groups on regular travel/study
trips to major museums in both the United States and in Europe.
Gaining experience
If you're hoping to gain work experience, the university offers a number
of options. For example, you can:
- work in the campus art galleries, art office, photo lab, and computer facilities
- pursue excellent internship opportunities within Indianapolis.
- work with the Office of Cooperative Education on campus to arrange
a paid position in art-related job.
UIndy students who take advantage of their opportunities here have
no problem answering the inevitable question: "What kind of work experience
do you have as an artist?" They have a professional portfolio.
