The course will explore the tools, materials, and techniques needed to create supports, frames, and other items for artists. We will discuss the various tools, their uses and functions, and safety precautions. We will explore the wide variety of available materials in regards to functionality, strength, and aesthetics.
The majority of the class time will be spent making a variety of projects. The projects include stretcher frames and panels and frames for stretched paintings and paper-based works that require shallow
frames and shadow box frames. Students will have the opportunity to build their own projects.
Tools will be provided by the Department of Art and Design. Students will be required to purchase the materials for each project. Materials will include the necessary lumber as well as wood glue, nails, screws, and any other miscellaneous hardware.
Due to the number of tools and space we have available, enrollment will be limited to 6 students. Because space is limited, please sign up early.
